It is good to be reminded of what God Himself has done lest we fall back into something He has done away with. I am speaking of the New Covenant God has made through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
The New Covenant is faultless whereas the Old had faults. It’s main fault was that it depended upon us/people to keep it perfectly something we are totally unable to do.
But the problem is we are a deluded bunch. We still sometimes, many times, think we can keep God’s Laws and that He expects us to keep them.
Let me ask you–How is that going for you? Do you get to the end of your day or week without one tiny little infraction against God’s Laws? Can you honestly say that this past week or even 24 hours you have not lied in any way? Whether that be a slight exaggeration you told or half truth it is still a lie.
Maybe you can say with all honesty that you have indeed told the truth and nothing but the truth. Well done. Take a bow.
But under cross examination by the Holy Spirit you and I both know that He would find you out in some area or another. You would be convicted as guilty – true?
Years ago after a few years of being a Believer in Jesus I had the opportunity to share the gospel with my mother and her husband. He is a lovely man. A kind caring man. He is of Jewish descent but attended Christian schools as a young man. His understanding of being a man pleasing to God is to strive to keep the Ten Commandments.
I strove to share with Him the grace of God and that all those relying upon their own ability to keep the Ten Commandments shall be ashamed before God.
There are many “good people” like him. Doing their best to be a good citizen. Nothing wrong with that is there!?? Better than being evil isn’t it?
What do you do with Isaiah’s words then?
Isa 64:5 You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, Who remembers You in Your ways. You are indeed angry, for we have sinned—In these ways we continue; And we need to be saved.
Isa 64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
Isa 64:7 And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities.
You see – The Old Covenant promise was if you perfectly obey God He would bless you. Do you see a weakness in that Covenant? It depends upon your performance.
And Apostle Paul declared using the words from the Prophets and Psalms that …
Rom 3:10 As it is written: “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE;
Rom 3:11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS; THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS AFTER GOD.
Rom 3:12 THEY HAVE ALL TURNED ASIDE; THEY HAVE TOGETHER BECOME UNPROFITABLE; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, NO, NOT ONE.”
All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God -Whether Jew or Gentile all are guilty and all are worthy of the death penalty.
Even the good people trying so hard to be good? Yes even them.
An interesting thing seen in the Gospels is that SINNERS were drawn to be with Jesus….but the self righteous good people only came to Jesus to attack Him and to try to prove Him to be a sinner. What are you? Why do you come to Jesus?
Is He the fount of living waters for your tired soul? Or is He a good man that you are trying to emulate? Is Jesus your ONLY RIGHTEOUSNESS and standing before a Holy God? Or are you asking Jesus to help you obey God today to keep the commandments?
I wanna say to you if you are the latter – STOP IT!!
You are guilty before God and do not seek God. You do not please God with all your obedience and trying. You have failed miserably to be perfect before God.
Rom 3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Sinners came to Jesus then because they knew that they could not keep the demands of the Old Covenant. They knew they needed Mercy and Grace and Jesus is full of both being full of God.
Self Righteous (sinners) do not know they are really sinners and failures – they are self deluded and blinded. They imagine themselves to be doing okay…better than those other people who are obviously sinners!!
Look at Romans 3:20 again
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
The knowledge of sin? By the Law is the knowledge of sin. No flesh will be justified in His sight through keeping the Law. Why? Because by the law is the knowledge of sin.
What does that mean!?
It means a justified person has NO KNOWLEDGE OF SIN!!
Yes it is true and the whole point of Jesus’ death.
What is sin? It is separation between God and the person he loves.
What is Eternal Life?
That we may know–really know–the Father and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent. (John 17)
God wants us all to know Him as Father….just as Jesus knows Him. But the knowledge of our separation from God stops us knowing God intimately. We know Him from afar…sin consciousness keeps us distant.
We imagine we must do and obey all His commandments in order to please Him….That is the Old Covenant and it is based upon delusion and lies.
Man thinks he can obey God –that he has what it takes–with Gods help to be like God. He tries and tries–and fails and fails. He berates himself and beats himself up and has another go at it. He lies and pretends to be doing okay…or he lives in sadness that he is a failure when it comes to God.
God has done something about it. The knowledge of sin is the old covenant and the old covenant has been ABOLISHED!!
No flesh shall be justified before God by the deeds of the law for by the law is the knowledge of sin. This applies to the religious Jews and Muslims and all people, even Christians who are still labouring under the heavy yoke of trying to keep the Law.
Come to Jesus!!
Believe in the good news!!
What good news?
Speaking of Jesus the Messiah and High Priest God says
Heb 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.
Heb 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.
Heb 8:8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “BEHOLD, THE DAYS ARE COMING, SAYS THE LORD, WHEN I WILL MAKE A NEW COVENANT WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF JUDAH—
Heb 8:9 NOT ACCORDING TO THE COVENANT THAT I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS IN THE DAY WHEN I TOOK THEM BY THE HAND TO LEAD THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT; BECAUSE THEY DID NOT CONTINUE IN MY COVENANT, AND I DISREGARDED THEM, SAYS THE LORD.
Heb 8:10 FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS IN THEIR MIND AND WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
Heb 8:11 NONE OF THEM SHALL TEACH HIS NEIGHBOR, AND NONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING, ‘KNOW THE LORD,’ FOR ALL SHALL KNOW ME, FROM THE LEAST OF THEM TO THE GREATEST OF THEM.
Heb 8:12 FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.”
Heb 8:13 In that He says, “A NEW COVENANT,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
God has made a new covenant with the House of Israel and the House of Judah.
“Oh well, then that is for the Jews not me” you may say…
Excuse me? No! You are included! – For if you believe in Jesus Christ the King of Judah God has grafted you into the Jewish olive tree.
Rom 11:17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree,
When Jesus took the cup and the bread at Passover He declared plainly that his broken body and poured out blood is the NEW COVENANT.
Mat_26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Mar_14:24 And He said to them, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many.
Luk_22:20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
It is no longer about you and what you do.
It is only about Jesus and what He has done for you.
He HAS FOREVER QUALIFIED YOU TO BE A PARTAKER AND SHARER IN GOD’S HEART.
Tit 3:3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
Tit 3:4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
Tit 3:6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
Tit 3:7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Fear in the world and also from preaching Hell and damnation pushes people back into the old covenant mindset -back into slavery –once again trying to earn peace with God through their own efforts.
But what Jesus did for you and I is enough, was more than enough to satisfy God. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You are forgiven all trespasses. You are justified before God by the work of Jesus not your own filthy efforts. You are qualified. You are accepted in the beloved.
As far as the east is from the west so far has God removed your sins from you – Ps 103
You are brought near to God and have access to Father’s heart by One spirit–the Spirit within you dear child of God.
There is nought between the saviour and I
No knowledge of sin- it is all wiped clean. I am one with Him by faith in Jesus.
