Jesus is a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense…But to who? To the self righteous.

Who are the self righteous?

Those who have not yet come to see that in and of themselves they can do nothing.

Those who imagine that they have what it takes to be obedient to God.

Those who have rejected being God’s image and likeness just the way they are without doing anything.

Jesus –That ‘weak'(in their thinking) man was a stumbling block to those of His own nation. For they supposed the Messiah would be a mighty king crushing His enemies with great violence….not some weak preacher who cared for people, even for lost sinners! So they stumbled at that rock and are looking for another Messiah more like themselves. One who keeps part of the Law perfectly, outwardly…one who is above others ruling with arrogance.

See here is the bottom line.

Either we eat from the tree of Life found inside of Jesus alone….the Jesus that has made Himself one spirit within us- joining us forever with Father God…..

Or we eat and find our identity in that  OTHER TREE. That other tree –of The knowledge of good and evil is death to us.

You might be self righteous and eat from and participate in the knowledge of what is RIGHT. You want to do right, you want to vote for someone who is right, you hate what is wrong, and hate those who push for what is wrong. Or you may be given over to evil to do what is evil and to know what is evil. Both sides –GOOD AND EVIL and from the same tree and both lead to death.

And here is the thing….

Millions of Christians are eating from that forbidden tree of death. They are clinging to what is right, trying to do right, asking God to help them do right, trying not to do what is wrong, lamenting over all the wrong that they still do. They are dwelling in death instead of Life.

Life says you are already forgiven all your trespasses- and all the requirements of the Law which you have broken He HAS ALREADY TAKEN AWAY AND NAILED THEM ALL TO THE CROSS!! DONE DEAL. Col 2:13

The tree of Life is Jesus dwelling inside your heart to be your only life(Col 3:4)your only perfect obedience. Not by works that you do, but by His faith inside of you.

The snare that is set is the Law of sin and death. Who set it? Not the Devil, but God!!

The Church of Jesus Christ is once again in the garden, presented once again with the two trees and the choice.

The serpent hisses that you do not need God to be a good person, just try hard to do good and not to do evil and you will be like God….knowing good and evil. What he really means is you will be like me knowing good and evil.

The bait is set before you constantly—-Issues in front of your eyes to trigger you to choose the tree of death.

Abortion—-THAT IS WRONG!!! DO RIGHT!!!

TRUMP IS A  …….? No he is not!! Yes he is!!

Drinking too much alcohol….?

Smoking and cussing…?

Pop stars…..? etc etc

Issues to get you to judge according to right and wrong and pronounce sentence upon them. Issues to divide you into either right or wrong…Left or Right….up or down…in or out.

Joh 8:15  You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
Joh 8:16  And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.

There is righteous judgement and there is unrighteous judgement. Unrighteous judgement comes from the flesh not out of communion and union with Father God. In other words the Tree of Life.

Isa 11:3  His delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
Isa 11:4  But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

Judging from the flesh is because we are living in the tree of death. We hold that tree outside ourselves as a standard we think we must live up to somehow….even though we know we can never do it. But we keep trying anyway…and pretending and lying about our failures to keep up the appearance of victory.

Those who are living from that tree —do right – don’t do wrong–are like the Jerusalem that Paul said must be CAST OUT.

Gal 4:24  which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar—
Gal 4:25  for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children—
Gal 4:26  but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Gal 4:28  Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. Gal 4:29  But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now.

The sad thing is that today millions of Christians are among those trusting in Hagar –TRYING TO LIVE UNDER THE OLD COVENANT OF SELF EFFORT and have not yet come to rest at the feet of Jesus and trust Him alone within them to be all in all.

And like Paul I say to this….

“So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free“. Gal 4:31

We are not under the old covenant of sin and death! We cannot keep it and even if we did somehow we would still be a stench in God’s nostrils for we have rejected Jesus as our sacrifice for sin. We are saying “Hey look at me God, I am a good Christian aren’t I, not like those wicked sinners? I go to church regularly, read my Bible and pay my tithes. I vote Republican/Democrat, I  help the poor and feed the hungry, I support Israel against the infidels and I teach Sunday School and even write a blog!! I also fly the flag and support our troops God… See God with your help I did my best for You!”

Tina Turner sang it….
A church house, gin house
A school house, outhouse
On highway number nineteen
The people keep the city clean
They call it Nutbush, oh Nutbush
They call it Nutbush city limits
Twenty-five was the speed limit
Motorcycle not allowed in it
You go t’the store on Fridays
You go to church on Sundays
They call it Nutbush, been a long time, oh Nutbush
They call it Nutbush city limits
You go to the fields on week days
And have a picnic on Labor Day
You go to town on Saturday
But go to church every Sunday
They call it Nutbush, oh Nutbush
They call it Nutbush city limits
No whiskey for sale
You get caught, no bail
Salt pork and molasses
All who refuse to acknowledge their utter weakness and inability to please God are siding with Hagar/Jerusalem–the old covenant of self effort–snubbing their noses at Jesus. To help us come fully to trust in Jesus, our Father in the heavens, with His faith full people are  CASTING OUT HAGAR AND HER SON. Together with Him we intercede for His body which has been bewitched for centuries by the Circumcisers who insist we try harder to be like Jesus—separate from Him –as if we have the responsibility to perform for God somehow.
Give it up! Yet I know you cannot give it up. God shall help you do that as He has helped me do it.
Paul warned those in Galatia who were trusting in their flesh to be a ‘good little Christian’.
Gal 5:11  And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased.
Gal 5:12  I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off!
Gal 5:13  For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Gal 5:14  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”
Gal 5:15  But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!
Love one another versus bite and devour one another?
Serving one another—for the other is higher than you.
But if you entertain thoughts of I must do right and not do wrong—then you will always compare yourself with others and then either vaunt yourself above others or feel inferior beneath others. This leads to devouring others and biting them with your judgemental attacks in order to appear better than them–superior to them and thus more pleasing to (your image of) God.
The offense of the Cross Paul spoke of is that you died. You were guilty and there was no way you could ever please God. God put you to death in Christ…and He has raised you up in Christ as a new creation….now in union with Jesus…pleasing God every moment, without doing anything!
The one trying earn brownie points is offended by Jesus.
