Coming out of the message I wrote recently –Being an Overcomer– I want to say a few things about Obedience. For the claim is that ‘an Overcomer is one who is perfectly obedient to God in all things. Thus it will only be the Overcomers who are raptured….and transformed to rule with Jesus over the lesser brethren who are not obedient’.

The word and thought of OBEDIENCE is a dividing line inside the psyche of Christians. For the very word seems to shout another word at us, that is – COMMANDMENTS!!

Let me ask you a question: Are you obedient? Are you obeying God?

The inner reasoning and thought processes that immediately occur when that question is asked are a study in human psychology that could fill books!

The moment that question is presented to your mind– “Are you obedient to God?” What is the first thing that you think about? Your performance.

We think about whether we are performing a thing called “our Christian duty” or not. Such a thing is not New Covenant but old covenant accusations. Whatever accuses us of falling short is Old Covenant–Old Testament. For all have fallen short of the glory of God. It is a fact.  We all have fallen short–all are sinners.

All are disobedient. All fall short. All are lawless. But God!!!

God sent His only son while we were still sinners and enemies of God to die for us thereby forgiving us all trespasses and clearing us completely of all charges that were against us. We are now judged as INNOCENT and are no longer falling short.

God did that for all people. All people are now judged as innocent of all charges. But only those who believe in Jesus and receive that incredible grace from God benefit from what Jesus did. Through His obedience all were made righteous. All people are made righteous through Jesus sacrifice but not all  have received Jesus as God’s gift of righteousness yet.

Many believers in Jesus have not yet received Him as God’s gift of righteousness to them either. Even though God declares us righteous and innocent and just….we still call ourselves dirty, failures, disobedient, fleshy, wicked, sinners. If we call ourselves those things it is because we do not believe Jesus is our right standing with God. Instead deep down we believe that we are responsible to be good people, pleasing to God BY WHAT WE DO!!

So when someone is presented with the question “Are you obedient to God?” if you answer, “No…not always…I am just a sinner.” You demonstrate that you are still REJECTING Jesus sacrifice for you and are still trying to be Holy by your own efforts.

If you have believed in Jesus and have received Him into your heart by faith….then His Life is now YOUR LIFE. The Life of Jesus is RIGHTEOUSNESS. His perfect OBEDIENCE is now YOUR  obedience. This is fact from God’s side of things—but needs to be realised from our side.

Once we see it–and embrace it for ourselves we are set free from the Accuser and begin to rest in the finished work Jesus accomplished for us.

Religion is based upon the lies of the Devil–the serpent in the garden. Religion says you are not like God…you need to do certain things to be like Him. The Gospel according to Paul says you are one spirit with God through Jesus Christ. You have the mind of Christ. You are the body of Christ. You are the Temple of God. You have been brought near to God. You are seated right now in heavenly places in Christ. You are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ….and much much more. ALL THROUGH FAITH ALONE!!

Your obedience is perfect….for Christ Jesus is your inner life….and His obedience is perfect. You are not a separate life trying to be pleasing to God. You are ONE with Jesus inside of Father God. You are made perfect and complete inside of Jesus by faith that you are.

You are an overcomer for Jesus has overcome for you. You are obedient for Jesus obeys all things for you.

Joh 6:27  Do not labor for the food which perishes,(wood hay and chaff) but for the food which endures to everlasting life,(gold silver through faith) which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
Joh 6:28  Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
Joh 6:29  Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in(to) Him whom He sent.”

The one labouring to produce for God only produces that which shall be burned in the fire for all his labours are borne out of a separated mindset. He thinks of himself as being separated from God having the responsibility to be pleasing to God by works.

The labour for food unto life RESTS inside of that which God has GIVEN him or her through Jesus dwelling inside their heart. The work of God is a Sabbath REST of faith in Jesus Christ. It is finished! Believe and rest in Him.

The accusation comes to us “Are you obedient?” To which we reply,

Yes absolutely I AM. The Father is always with me for I always do those things that are pleasing in His sight. I am one with Jesus and Jesus has made me pleasing to our Father.
